Meet Julie Goodin, CPA

Julie is the founder of BSE Accounting & Consulting and a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with more than 20 years of experience in financial and tax accounting. Throughout her career, she has worked with businesses across a variety of industries, helping owners strengthen their financial operations, solve complex accounting challenges, and make informed business decisions.

Julie earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before beginning her career in public accounting in the St. Louis area. She later transitioned into corporate accounting, where she advanced into executive leadership as a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). These experiences provide her with a well-rounded perspective on the financial and operational challenges businesses face every day.

One of Julie's greatest strengths is her ability to make accounting understandable. As a former accounting instructor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and McKendree University, she developed a passion for teaching and helping others gain confidence in their financial knowledge. She believes that informed business owners make better decisions, and she enjoys breaking down complex accounting concepts into practical, easy-to-understand guidance.

Julie founded BSE Accounting & Consulting to provide personalized accounting services built on trust, integrity, and lasting relationships. Whether she's managing day-to-day bookkeeping, providing CFO advisory services, preparing tax returns, or training a client's team, her goal is always the same—to deliver accurate, dependable solutions that allow business owners to focus on growing their businesses with confidence.

When you work with BSE Accounting & Consulting, you're working directly with Julie. She is committed to providing responsive, professional service and becoming a trusted advisor for every stage of your business journey.

The Elephant

One of the questions I hear most often is, "What does BSE stand for?"

The answer always makes people smile.

BSE stands for Big Sexy Elephant.

The name comes from one of my favorite episodes of The King of Queens. In the episode, "Window Pain," Doug and Carrie are arguing when an elephant unexpectedly becomes part of the conversation. By the end of the episode, Carrie affectionately calls Doug "my big sexy elephant."

Every time we watch it, it still makes me laugh out loud—not just a chuckle, but the kind of laugh that brightens your entire day. It's become one of those little inside jokes that has brought us closer and reminds me not to take life too seriously.

When it came time to name my accounting firm, I wanted something that meant more than a set of initials. I wanted a name that would make me smile every time I saw it, remind me of the people who matter most, and reflect the kind of business I wanted to build.

Accounting is serious business, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the journey. My hope is that BSE Accounting & Consulting is known not only for dependable, professional service but also for creating genuine relationships built on trust, kindness, and a little bit of joy along the way.
